Good food, good friends, and a handful of great performances. The nonprofit arts venue showed video from SWOON’s spiffy installation, Olas! performed a catchy, hand-clapping round of flamenco, and Spencer and the School Spirit Mafia rocked.

Swoon Opening at SPACE Gallery

Brooklyn street artist Swoon and her artistic collaborators descended on SPACE Gallery in Portland to install a new urban landscape—paper portraits, cardboard collages, and wheat paste posters. For one night, artists from Portland and Bed-Stuy collided on the dance floor.

An empty bottle hung from a tree in the Portland Museum of Arts’s garden on Spring Street as fiddler Pam Weeks and flutist Laura Block played live music. Food purveyors offered a taste of the Maine coast—all paired with a summer painting show, Call of the Coast: Art Colonies of New England.
