Words from our Subscribers
November 2011
My family recently spent a week in Stonington and fell in love with everything. We had admired Maine from afar for some time and were quite pleased when our expectations, assumptions, and hopes were all confirmed. My wife picked up a copy of Maine magazine during our trip and I decided the subscription would be a nice birthday gift for her, as she also loves home/design type magazines. Looking forward to both magazines in Tennessee.

I recently came across Maine and Maine Home+Design while discovering the state this summer. I enjoyed what I saw in Maine and I felt the publications' content and aesthetic was a great representation of this. As a contributing writer / editor focusing on features that inspire through the conceptual details, people and quality experienced in great cultures, I am looking forward to Maine and Maine Home+Design serving as my guide on this great state.

I found your magazines in the Boston area and have been buying them occasionally over the past year. On a recent weekend trip to Brunswick, ME I had the pleasure of being gifted with both Maine and Maine Home+Design and finally decided that I NEED to have these delivered to me at home to feed my fix. We're headed to Boothbay Harbor this weekend, and I have to tell you that I was thrilled to see "48 hours in Boothbay" on your website!

I was walking by someone's house in Brooklyn, NY and I saw your magazine sticking out of their mailbox and from a REALLY far distance I thought it looked cool. You see--my parents just moved to Rockland, ME and I'm excited about visiting them and I'm sort of hoping to get my husband excited about it too and when I saw the magazine sticking out from this stranger's mailbox I thought, "hmmmm a well-designed magazine with lush images of Maine delivered to our house might work." I can't wait to see my first issue.

My wife and I love the magazine. What caught my eye was the story on Tide Mill Farm. We love that part of the state and camp up near the farm. Someday we hope to actually visit the farm, but I have been following what they have been doing at Tide Mill for a few years now, and wish them all the luck in the world. They are doing a great thing there, and your article was a great way to publicize their efforts as well as other farms throughout the state. I ended up reading all of the other articles, actually, cover to cover, something I rarely do with a magazine. You folks put out a great publication, so keep up the great work!

We were in Maine last year and got a copy of Maine magazine. We are planning another trip in a couple of weeks, and I had saved the issue. So, straight to the website I went, and, between the hard copy and the website and the fact that we hope to move to Maine in the next couple of years, we decided to subscribe. And may I just say that the photography and content of the magazine is wonderful and very evocative of the state. Thank you for that.

I love Maine magazine because I feel like I always learn something new about Maine, and I love the pictures, the content and overall feel, or ambiance of the magazine- well done!

Although we live in Massachusetts, my wife, son, and I have been going to Maine for about 20 years. I first saw you magazine during a stay in Rockland. I was impressed by the range of articles and excellent photography. The design and layout is excellent. We love art, food, and culture and people in ME and feel that your magazine more than the many others reflects that.

My family and I just returned from our annual two-week vacation to Mount Desert Island. We started vacationing in Maine in the early '80s when we lived in Boston and have returned to MDI for the past 24 summers with our (now grown) children; since '93, we've been making the trip from our home in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. Several copies of both your magazines were in the cottage we rent and I was impressed by their clean design, well-written articles and excellent photography. Nice work!

I live in Presque Isle now, though I am from Ohio originally. I found Maine magazine originally while grocery shopping up here. I usually grab a magazine during my weekly shopping and as I recall whatever the cover picture was caught my eye. It seems to be a good magazine, in my opinion. I like reading about people and places around this cool state. Frankly I am more of an urban, Portland type person, but my job and fiancé are rooted up here....and thus here I am. I enjoy life up here but I do love coastal Maine, of course. So I like knowing what is happening when I get to head south. You should be proud of your association with these publications; they are well done in every aspect.

I found you in kind of a roundabout way. We vacation every summer at our family camp at Square Pond and I saw your magazine for the first time at the laundromat in town. I liked it but I couldn't find a subscription card inside. One of the books I had brought to read on vacation was This Life in your Hands which I loved. When I finished the book I googled the author, Melissa Coleman and found out she wrote for your magazine and there was a link so taa daaa! Best of luck to you, I enjoyed that one issue very much and I am already dreaming of next summer's vacation.

I was just at Goose Rocks Beach renting a cottage and my brother picked up Maine and then I bought Maine Home+ Design and within 24 hours of returning home I subscribed to both. I was impressed by the production quality, perspective, and attention to details. I really enjoy the fresh perspective on Maine.

I purchased your inaugural issue when I was married in Maine. We now own a home in Southern Maine that we rent out and love to leave issues at the house for the summer renters. We love the mix of articles - local artisan features/bios, restaurant reviews/stories which we think renters staying at the house would enjoy reading and learning about Maine culture.

I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy Maine magazine! Having recently relocated to New England, it took me only a very short time to realize the state of Maine is a breathtakingly beautiful place with so many wonderful things going for it. On my most recent trip this past weekend, I picked up a copy of your magazine for the first time and found it to really represent everything that Maine does so well. Your content is stellar, the photography is beautiful, and the overall design is clean and striking. SO well done and such a pleasure to read. Kudos to your team! Looking forward to keeping up with the magazine.

Our son is attending University of New England College of Medicine in Biddeford. We helped him move in. He's living in the North Dam apartments and in the lobby there were several copies of Maine on the tables. I was so impressed by the coverage of restaurants, lodging, businesses and the photography. I knew I needed a subscription to plan our visits!

My wife's family summers in Bar Harbor and we go back every year. I've been going to Maine since I was born. When we go to Maine, we stop for a couple of days in Portland just to eat and see what's new in the art/fashion/DIY world. I happened to spot Maine on a rack, in Portland and I was really taken by the design -- so clean, modern, graphic. The articles seemed to describe the Maine I visit much better than anything else I'd seen. So when I got back to California, I checked out your website and was again impressed by the graphics and the fast load time.

My partner and I just spent a week in Rockland and came across your magazine. Part of the reason for our visit was shopping towns for retirement and I thought your magazine might be helpful in our research.

Though we now appear to be "summer people," both my husband and I have deep roots in Maine. My family has owned a tree farm in Sebec for over 200 years, and George's helped settle Warren in the 1730s. He grew up in Thomaston on a dairy farm bordering the St. George's River while I grew up in a suburb of Washington, D.C., but spent my summers at the rustic 300 acre farm in Sebec. We met while going to UMO in the 70s, and have returned to Maine every summer even though we haven't been lucky enough to live there full-time--yet. I'm writing from my annual six week stay in a family cottage on Muscongus Harbor, to which I escape from the frightful Texas summer to energize for going back to my teaching position in Coppell, TX. A local friend told me of your publication last year and it's our plan to try to retire to Maine in 3-5 years, so your magazines are part of our "research!" I look forward to "visiting" Maine through your periodical.
