Environmental Healthy Strategy Center’s 2018 Celebration

Join us to celebrate work that brings together diverse people creating common-sense solutions toward a healthy and toxic-free future at the Environmental Healthy Strategy Center’s 2018 Celebration. Community members will come together to celebrate the work done in Maine and nationwide to get toxic chemicals out of children’s and families’ food, drinking water, and products. The keynote speaker this year is Dr. Ami Zota, Scd, MS, an assistant professor in the Department of Environmental & Occupational Health at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., who is recognized for her research on toxic chemicals in food and her environmental justice advocacy.

Portland Downtown Merry Madness

Merry Madness, a Portland Downtown event, brings thousands of residents and visitors downtown for a one-of-a-kind holiday shopping experience. On this special night, more than 75 shops stay open late (until 10pm) so that shoppers can enjoy a truly magical evening exploring all that downtown has to offer.

Natural Resource Council of Maine’s Polar Bear Dip and Dash

Join us in Portland on Monday, December 31 for the Natural Resources Council of Maine’s 11th annual Polar Bear Dip & Dash. NRCM’s chilling and thrilling 5k and polar bear dip raises funds to combat climate change. The effects of climate change on Maine’s environment are severe. Weather patterns are changing from one extreme to the next, habitat has been lost, and our seas are rising.

The Orlando Consort: “Voices Appeared”

Voices Appeared is a live multimedia performance and historical reconstruction of Carl Theodor Dreyer’s 1928 film La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc. Curated and performed by the UK’s celebrated Orlando Consort, the project uses vocal works from the early part of the 15th century — coinciding with Joan of Arc’s lifetime — to accompany the classic silent film.
