The Starting Line
Capturing anticipation and action at the start of the 2018 TD Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race
Last year more than 6,500 people gathered at the starting line on Route 77 in Cape Elizabeth for 21st running of the TD Beach to Beacon 10K. Photographer Christina Wnek captured the preparations and start of the hazy and humid morning, which proved difficult for many runners. The median time for all participants exceeded an hour for the first time in the race’s history.
New Zealand native Jake Robertson took first place with a time of 27 minutes, 37 seconds. Sandrafelis Chebet Tuei of Kenya won the women’s race with a time of 31 minutes, 21 seconds. Among Maine residents, Michelle Lilienthal of Portland won in the women’s division, and Ryan Smith of Farmington was the fastest of the male runners.
This year’s TD Beach to Beacon will be held Saturday, August 8 at 8 a.m. and end at Fort Williams Park.
