Moonlight Challenge

Join us for an evening of friendly competition and fun under the lights at Shawnee Peak, all in support of children fighting cancer in Maine and New Hampshire. The 5th annual Maine Children’s Cancer Program Moonlight Challenge at Shawnee Peak, is set to take place on Friday, February 1, 2019.

Recruit your team of four skiers or snowboarders (all ages welcome) and get ready to compete to be the fastest on the giant slalom race course, and also to raise the most funds for Maine Children’s Cancer Program!

Talking Art in Maine is a series of intimate, one-on-one conversations between artist, Jane Dahmen and notable artists and curators who have made a substantial contribution to the arts scene in the state of Maine. American Contemporary Music Ensemble: “Strumming Music”

Described as “vital,” “brilliant,” and “electrifying,” by the New York Times, the American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME) is a force for new music, dedicated to the outstanding performance of masterworks from the 20th and 21st centuries. For this very special project—sited within and in response to a contemporary illustration exhibit—audience members are immersed in thrilling music by notable composers Charlemagne Palestine, Philip Glass, Clarice Jensen and Morton Feldman.

Ranky Tanky

From playful game songs to ecstatic shouts, from heartbreaking spirituals to delicate lullabies, “[Ranky Tanky] proves that the right musicians can make the past new all over again” (NPR). Trumpeter Charlton Singleton, guitarist Clay Ross, bassist Kevin Hamilton, drummer Quentin Baxter, and vocalist Quiana Parler mix the low country traditions with large doses of jazz, gospel, funk, and R&B. The Charleston quintet is exploding onto the music scene with their inspired take on the soulful songs born from Gullah traditions of the Southeastern US’s Sea Islands.
