The Secret Life of Bees

In this award-winning adaptation of Sue Monk Kidd’s New York Times bestseller, a young girl’s search for the truth about her mother leads her to three beekeeping sisters and the real meaning of family. Lily’s story—including her journey of self-discovery during the turbulent Civil Rights Era—is masterfully told in this one-woman performance from American Place Theater, the same acclaimed company behind last season’s presentation of The Kite Runner.

Merry Madness

Come downtown for a night of shopping and merriment with your friends — and make some new ones, too!

Portland House of Music will host the Kickoff Party for Merry Madness from 4-6:30pm, complete with live music, delicious snacks and a commemorative Merry Madness glass. Your $15 advance ticket ($20 at the door) guarantees you entry into the event, a collectible glass, one pour of wine, yummy snacks and a Merry Madness shopping bag. Plus: when you order tickets online, you’ll automatically be entered to win some cool raffle prizes. How amazing is that?

Once you have your glass, get ready to shop ’til you drop at our many fabulous participating locations. The shops will stay open until 10pm and you can follow the map to find holiday treasures for everyone on your list! Adding to the fun: your Merry Madness glass will get you free wine tastings and other refreshments throughout the evening. Bliss!

To sweeten the deal even more, a portion of all Merry Madness ticket sales will benefit the Portland Press Herald Toy Fund, a wonderful charity that helps make the holidays shine brighter for children all over Maine.
