“In July 2012, I spent time in New York City photographing by myself. I set out to cover as much ground and capture as many moments as possible. What came of a few days and many miles was this image. Taken in a city of millions of people, I was struck by the feeling of loneliness the photograph conveyed, and the parallel solidarity in my subjects’ stances.” —Sean Thomas
