Jennifer & Parker

October 15, 2016 | Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport

While attending a party with her roommates who were on the Boston College sailing team, Jennifer met Parker, who was also on the team. Within weeks they were a couple. Eight years later, while vacationing in Portland, the couple decided to have a picnic on Peaks Island. They found some passersby to take their picture as they posed on a rock in front of the water, when suddenly, Parker got down on one knee and proposed with a diamond and sapphire ring handmade by his longtime family friend. The couple wanted a beautiful outdoor location where guests could witness the fall foliage and found the perfect spot in Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport. Following a first look on Goose Rocks Beach, the ceremony included Parker’s mother playing music, two of their closest friends doing readings, and their fathers carrying the wedding bands. “I wish I could re-live that day all over,” says Jennifer. “It was truly the best day.”

Autumnal Elegance

Herb Toss: Instead of the traditional rice toss, florist Flora Fauna created a dried herb station, with each herb representing a virtue, such as chamomile for patience, lavender for devotion, and rose for love. Guests created their own mixture to shower on the newlyweds after the ceremony. “Although most of the herbs landed down my dress and got stuck in my hair, it was so much fun for everyone, and we have a great photo of that moment,” says Jennifer.

Location: While the couple were originally looking for a venue directly on the water, they fell in love with Hidden Pond. “The atmosphere is so peaceful—relaxing but also luxurious,” says Jennifer. “The property is beautiful with gardens surrounded by birch trees, and the barn felt so intimate and cozy. The incredible, farm- fresh food from Earth is from local vendors and the Hidden Pond gardens.”

Rings: Parker’s wedding band is his great- grandfather’s gold band with the wedding date of February 25, 1895 engraved inside, while Jennifer’s engagement ring and band were handmade by Parker’s friend Joey Modica of Thursday-Born Natural Jewelry.
