The Maine Weekender, December 31—January 2

How are you holding up? Getting through the holidays is like running a marathon, in that you often need to focus on pacing yourself to cross the finish line, as opposed to sprinting out of the blocks. Easier said than done, though. Whether you feel rested and restored or are still recovering from weeks of festivities, here’s our roundup for this weekend in Maine:
Something to Do:
Ready to say farewell to 2021? This weekend, ring in the new year in style at Batson River’s New Year’s Eve Party in Portland! Wear your best cocktail attire and prepare to dance the night away, with a special toast when the clock strikes 12. Please note that proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test are required for attendance.
When: 9 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday
Where: 82 Hanover St., Portland
Somewhere to Go:
In this age of technology, when you can play just about any game possible on your phone, it can be a relief to go back to the old standby of arcade games. If you’re craving a round of pinball, Ms. Pac Man, or Skeeball, make your way over to Portland this Saturday for the newly reopened Arcadia National Bar’s New Year’s Eve celebration! What better way to greet 2022 than on a walk down memory lane?
When: 8 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday
Where: 504 Congress St., Portland
Something to Eat:
Are New Year’s Eve parties not your thing? If you’re more of a morning person, celebrate the new year on your terms by grabbing brunch at Flip Breakfast and Brunch Bar in Brunswick, which opened for business last week! With a broad selection of breakfast staples (including a Break-Feast that serves four people), as well as classic brunch cocktails like mimosas and bloody mary’s, you’ll be sure to enjoy writing those aspirational New Year’s resolutions.
When: 7 a.m to 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays
Where: 212 Maine St., Brunswick
Something to See:
The holiday season may be winding down, but light displays around the state are still illuminating the wintry nights! Need inspiration for where to go? Check out our roundup of holiday light displays to visit and admire while we wait for the days to slowly grow longer.
