Name: Foster Huntington

From here or from away?
I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon.

Where do you live now?
I am a senior at Colby College.

How is business?
Busy. I was in New York at Ralph Lauren for May, June, and July and have been working with L.L. Bean since August on a new brand designed by Alex Carleton.

Are you an authority on any subject?
Not yet. I love to take photos and think about clothes.

The most fashionable thing you own is a…
Pair of benchmade cordovan wingtips from England.

What’s your footwear?
I love my Danner hiking boots.

Do you grow or hunt any of your own food?
I am hoping to go upland hunting in the fall and ice fishing in the winter. Hopefully, then I can feast on the fat of the land.

Winter is for…
Snowboarding, flannel-lined pants, wool socks, ice fishing, hard apple cider, James Bond marathons, and fireplaces.

Where do you go to get away?
Long drives through the countryside with frequent stops to take pictures and to hunt for junk at yard sales and flea markets.

Who inspires you?
My younger brother Tim Huntington and the rest of my family, my best friend Edge Trullinger, the bros from RL, Andy Spade and Anthony Sperduti, Alex Carleton, Mark Knopfler, David Byrne, and Ernest Hemingway.

Who are you listening to?
Over the weekend, I drove 16 hours from Michigan. The radio was broken so I picked up The Cars—Greatest Hits and Genius: The Best of Warren Zevon on tape. It was the best $1.50 I ever spent.

Describe your style.
My style is a mix of classic American outdoorsy (Filson, L.L. Bean) with the scruffy sensibility of a Gus Van Sant movie. I like the idea of not having a lot of clothes but really valuing and appreciating the clothes that you do have.

Maine is…
Logging, lobster fishing, and snow in April.

Tell me about the last thing you fixed…
The last thing I fixed was the crotch of a pair of overalls from the 1930s.
