REAL WEDDINGS-February 2013

Sarah and Johnny’s midsummer wedding at her family home in Biddeford Pool gathered 220 family and friends for an oceanside ceremony and tented reception at the nearby Abenakee Club. Their love of family, nature, and all things Maine inspired the playful decor, which included potted herbs, fresh flowers, and family-style food service with delicious, locally sourced creations. Sarah wore her grandmother’s hat and veil from the 50s, which coincidentally (or not?) matched the lace on her beautiful backless dress. Wedding surprises included a secret heart Sarah embroidered on the collar of Johnny’s wedding shirt and an extra kiss during the ceremony.

“WE ARE NOT PARTICULARLY RELIGIOUS, AND SARAH’S FAMILY’S PROPERTY IS SO BEAUTIFUL, WHY GO INSIDE? WE FIND NATURE TO BE DIVINE.”

Why…

that many people?
“Because we have big families, it was hard to trim the extensive list!” says Sarah.

Meredith Perdue?
Sarah found Meredith Perdue online and fell in love with the soft, dreamy atmosphere she creates in her photos.

pre-wedding activities?
The day of the wedding the groom and groomsmen played golf and the bride and bridesmaids went to the beach. Sarah highly recommends relaxing activities for the entire wedding party in the hours leading up to the ceremony and throughout the week leading up to the wedding.

those flowers?
The answer is simple: those were the flowers growing at Broadturn Farm at the time. Sarah got to walk through the beds in the weeks before the wedding to get a sense of what was growing.

Aurora Provisions?
Aurora Provisions came highly recommended to the couple. “Leslie Oster has a great sense of food and flavors and how to orchestrate a local event.”

a day-of coordinator?
The couple hired Kate Martin of Beautiful Days to keep Sarah and her mom on track and to help them enjoy the day.

that cake?
Their mutual love of carrot cake made that selection easy. The icing—”cream cheese of course”—included orange and honey.

that stationery?
The couple chose letterpressed, tactile stationery. “The extremely helpful and flexible folks at Papier made the invites happen, in addition to the last-minute printouts of ceremony programs on fun paper, and menu printouts.”
