01 Diamond’s Edge Restaurant and Marina | Portland
It’s freeing to leave the brick sidewalks of the Old Port and catch a ferry over to one of the Casco Bay islands. Guests will feel that escape when they step on to the dock of Great Diamond Island. Diamond’s Edge Restaurant and Marina hosts weddings on its land with views of the bay and a reflection pond where ceremonies can be arranged. Cocktail hour can be held at the pond as well and there is plenty of open land for guests to explore. Leaving the island, the couple can grab a water taxi and escape as guests board the ferry back to Portland.
02 Migis Lodge | South Casco
Migis Lodge is located on Sebago Lake, its waterfront property stretching in sand and rocks across 3,500 feet of shore and moving back 125 acres through pines. The log cabins and pine needles scattered across the dirt paths remind visitors of camp, but the overall experience is undoubtedly luxurious. Weddings at Migis Lodge offer a range of options, including a boat ride to and from the ceremony and a bonfire on the front terrace to finish the night, but the lodge insists on working with their planner and executive chef to create a personalized ceremony and reception.
03 Granite Ridge Estate and Barn | Norway
Inside the barn at Granite Ridge Estate a floor-to-ceiling window lets in natural light and views of Mount Washington and a tree-filled landscape. At this western Maine venue, couples can rent the 128-acre property for the weekend and stay in the estate. The handbuilt timber-frame barn is 3,500 square feet and can accommodate 120 to 230 guests. There’s an on-site concierge and director who will take care of all your day-of needs. The venue works exclusively with Blue Elephant Catering.
04 Grace Restaurant | Portland
Formerly a church, Grace has now been transformed into a restaurant. Much of the original architecture and design were preserved, and the venue is filled with elements of early Gothic Revival style—wood pillars reach up to the arched ceiling and stained glass windows surround. The band sets up in the former choir balcony, which overlooks the crowd. The food is prepared in the restaurant’s open kitchen, providing an interactive experience for the guests.
05 Portland Company Complex Portland
Portland Company Complex is a former locomotive foundry, and inside there are three distinct rooms available for events. The venue is located off the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad along Portland’s waterfront, and “Room with a View,” the smallest of the rooms, overlooks Portland Harbor. The largest room can accommodate over 400 guests for a seated reception, and its bare walls with giant windows are a blank canvas. Many couples who choose to get married in the space get creative with design and staging.
06 Barn at Hardy Farm Fryeburg
The Barn at Hardy Farm was constructed in 1835. Inside, the historic space becomes elegant with modern design details. Double staircases lead up to a wrap-around mezzanine level where guests and the couple can watch the occasion from above. The ceremony can take place in a woodland chapel under a log pergola where guests sit on hemlock benches. The surrounding trees are 300 years old and arch at the top, creating a natural cathedral. Receptions can be inside the barn or in the sailcloth tent on the property. Up to 32 guests can stay on site in the farmhouse and lodge. Guests can explore the area on the surrounding trails, which lead to White Mountain views.
07 Spruce Point Inn | Boothbay Harbor
In Boothbay Harbor, the Spruce Point Inn provides a gorgeous backdrop for a wedding ceremony. The inn has multiple options for ceremonies, cocktail hours, and receptions. The oceanfront deck is elevated and looks out over Burnt Island Lighthouse. The Pemaquid is the post-and-beam space that is illuminated with cast-iron chandeliers, and there are also tented courtyards, which serve as foul weather backups. Brides can primp in the bridal suite complete with hair and makeup stations. Photographs can be taken out on the rocks that surround the coast, making it a truly nautical experience.
08 Point Lookout | Northpoint
At Point Lookout in Northpoint, one location for a ceremony is the summit where the vast island-dotted Penobscot Bay stretches out before guests. The surrounding area has coastal towns Camden, Rockland, Belfast, and Bar Harbor, so guests can make their trip into a longer adventure. Guests can stay at the resort and rent cabins that are set back in the woods and have old stoves and screened-in porches. The resort also has a bowling alley, arcade, and other games that can inspire ideas for family friendly, pre-wedding activities.
09 Ridge Church | St.George
If you are hoping for a church wedding, Ridge Church in St. George has a classic New England feel, which is perhaps the reason why N.C. Wyeth was inspired to paint it in 1936. The chapel was constructed in 1817, can accommodate 100 guests, and couples of any denomination can exchange vows inside. There is a lawn outside where a tent can be erected for a ceremony, and Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde are just five minutes away.
